[olug] Which Asterisk?

First, If you do not want the Snom's we can negotiate something. I am
always needing more.

The Cisco Interface is great if you like to have to look at your phone to
get stuff done. The body design and handset are sturdy and feel nice. The
audio is great and the Cisco's have a better Echo Canceller. However the
Standard's Compliant SIP firmware is neutered. Selective Page / Intercom
per line, Presence, and On-Hook dialing are in SCCP but not in SIP. Also
the Expansion Panel for the 7960,61,70,71 only works with the SCCP load.
The 7905,06,10,12,40,60,70 use the Proprietary Cisco PoE standard.
Configuration is mostly done via remote provisioning. Most phones do not
have a web interface.

The Snom Phones for the lowest 300 to the Highest 370, have line keys/ speed
dial/ extension-presence keys. The most common phone functions, Hold,
Transfer, Conf, DND and others have hard (but reprogrammable to custom
features) buttons. The Snom phones are based on Open Source technology
(uses Linux, but phone app is proprietary). The Snom phones work great and
sound good, speaker phone sometimes has problems. Snom use the standard
802.3af PoE standard. Web interface with interactive URL usage for
notifying server of action / sending commands to the phone.

My main gripe with Polycom is their lack of customer service for their
products. I ordered off of E-bay a IP500, when I ended up with the IP400
instead and the seller then failed to work with me and exchange or refund my
money, I tried to get it to work. After finding limited to no documentation
on this model / firmware. I called Polycom and willing to pay for support /
documentation / software license. They basically told me to go away. With
some more determined searching I found a H323 load for it but still did not
get it to work correctly. Jay has the Phone right now but I would be
willing to work with someone who knows Polycom to get it to work.

Thanks
Shawn

I have a Snom 320 and a 360 new in box ... one more thing that never
got attention during our VoIP days ... I was going to put them on Ebay
because I've heard Bad Things About Them(tm) from a customer who has a few.

Whats the difference between them and Cisco? The Cisco stuff seems
slicker and sturdier than the Snom gear ...
