I actually approach the cost of smoking similar to how my mom approached
telemarketers concerning 'her long distance carrier' or changing her plan
details:
T: We could save you $10 a month
M: Doesn't matter much
T: Why ?
M: If I don't give it to you, I'll spend it somewhere else... either way I
won't have the $10.
T: speechless
The jist of it is, if I don't spend the $12 a week on ciggies, I'd spend
that $12 a week on something else.... not pocket it for a big item some day.
Similarly, after I quit drinking (was a moderate casual drinker with
expensive tastes), I didn't see a noticeable change in my budget.
For people who's budget is affected by smoking, then I can see this
argument, otherwise it's moot :)
