If you don't mind loading software on your DCs you can always use
Microsoft's SFU (Services for UNIX); standard pam_ldap and nss_ldap Just
Work then.

Heck, once you have SFU you don't even need to bother with nss_ldap, you
can use NIS and pam_ldap just as easily.
