I think... I might have an analogy that doesn't seem to make a
preference to something being better than the other.... concerning
those who can spot most lossy compressed files based on 'sensation'
rather than technical aspects (ie: a bit rate change doesn't really
improve the situation etc)

It's kinda like motion sickness.  Two people can be put in the exact
same situation, and one is perfectly fine while the other is queasy.
One's not necessarily better than the other, but they are indeed
different.  Air sickness might be another good analogy.
