Not at all. HDMI is just dual-link DVI with integrated audio. HDCP is
unlikely to ever happen on Linux, but that is only required for playing DRM
'protected' content. You can still do hi-def video over HDMI as long as it's
unprotected.
If you do want hi-def video, however, make sure the PC is very powerful. My
current media center is a dual-core pentium with 3Gigs of ram and an nVidia
8500 and it can't even do 720p.
