Linksys. Trust me, I've tried everything imaginable to prevent failures.
Just recently our Linksys router failed again, so we tried switching to
Netgear as an experiment. We went through two different Netgear models,
neither one of which worked properly out of the box, before settling on a
new Linksys 802.11N router. In every case the router freezes up or has to be
periodically reset, as the DNS resolution or simply all traffic stops
flowing for no apparent reason. The aforementioned Linksys router that was
replaced had to be reset every 30mins, and flashing third-party firmware
such as DD-Wrt or Tomato does no good.
I've been dealing with failures of this sort across 5-6 different revisions
of the Linksys hardware, in four different locations in the past five years.
My roommate's experience with D-Link has been even worse. At this point I've
resigned myself to simply having to buy replacements.
