Hey folks,
BryanLGH Health System in Lincoln has an opening for a new Systems Programmer
position:
https://www.healthcaresource.com/bryan/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.jobDetails&template=dsp_job_details.cfm&cJobId=704484
"The Systems Programmer is responsible for installing, testing,
debugging and customizing operating systems and other utility packages.
Through the use of technical knowledge and skills in all areas of
operating systems architecture, the Systems Programmer performs system
planning, configurations, evaluations and performance analysis;
prepares and conducts training sessions for staff; and produces project
activity and progress reports on a regular basis. Associates degree in
Computer Science or equivalent field of study required. Bachelors of
Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent field of study
preferred. Minimum of four (4) years experience in computer
programming, information systems or related area required. Prior
systems programming experience in a hospital environment preferred."
Despite the description, there's really no programming involved.
The most important skills are Unix (Linux & AIX) system administration,
database (esp Oracle) administration, and general troubleshooting.
This is not a job for somebody fresh out of college. BryanLGH has a
large network with about 3500 nodes, including about 300 servers,
most of which are Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and IBM AIX,
and many of which are connected to a large SAN. It's an 8-5 job,
but you'll have to take turns being on call 24x7. BryanLGH pays
above average for Lincoln, and comparably to Omaha & KC.
This is what I do, so I can give plenty more details to anybody
who's interested. As far as I know, this is a new position, not
a replacement for our five current Systems Programmers.
We also have a Project Manager position open:
https://www.healthcaresource.com/bryan/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.jobDetails&template=dsp_job_details.cfm&cJobId=627358
My manager has requested from HR that we also add two new Windows admins
(in addition to our current 4), and a junior LAN engineer (in addition
to our 2 seniors), but I've heard no word on whether those have been
approved. I'll let you all know if the LAN job gets opened.
