Can you send me the URL so I can try it?

Can you post most of the vhost block, including any rewrites?  There may 
be a missing trailing slash somewhere in a redirect.

When you get the 404s in IE, are you going to example.com or 
example.com/ ?  Try it with the slash if you haven't.
