We've had plenty of issues at work with ssh tunnels and openvpn to
some locations... MTU and/or mssfix in openvpn config tends to fix
things. (linux <> linux, or linux <> Win2k). 1200, and 596 seem to do
well.  These are out of state locations calling home, for what it's
worth.

Separately, In a local ethernet network of many DOS systems connecting
to a single linux server, we've sometimes had to drop the MTU on the
linux server in instances where the linux server dumps ~3-6mb of data
on the wire, but the DOS client stalls on it / doesnt see it all.
Usually an MTU change on the linux box to 1024 fixes it.

We've also had crappy hubs (cough, Encore, cough) cause similar problems.

If it's dropped / stalled connections, there might be an MTU issue or
a lame hub.

If it's a performance issue... other than nothing WinSCP v3/v4 being
slow compared to scp/sftp, I don't have any real suggestions.
