how futile is it to try and install knoppix or ubuntu to a scsi hard drive?

So far i can get through the install of xubuntu 6.10 i386 alternate, but
after the install all i get is a blinking cursor... classically.

I'm thinking there might be some small amount of magic software that gets
loaded during the install, thus allowing the computer to mount and write
to the scsi disk... and perhaps this magic code is not getting loaded
during booting.

why am i using such an old version of xubuntu?? ...the newer versions
complain that the install cds are bad... which of course they are not, as
i have tested them in another comp.

why knoppix or ubuntu? ... can i play the
it's-not-for-me-it's-for-a-friend card? that might be pretty played out
I'm guessing. But if you press me that's where I'll go.

any advice, sarcastic remarks or berating are all equally welcome. Also,
if you can work some sort of easy off-the-cuff slam of microsoft into your
reply you can expect an extra hug at the next olug.

Thanks in advance,

-J
