[olug] samba headache in ubuntu 8.04 laptop

in my experience, it seems to be the software that usually works better in
ubuntu, rather than the hardware.
the package manager is awesome, i have to admit.

where i really run into problems with ubuntu is the samba support. it sucks
for me every time.
this particular issue may be specific to my samba network, but mandriva,
debian, and Suse always work seamlessly with my servers (other than that few
second delay when browsing the workgroup).

what confuses me with this ubuntu install is that samba is so sporadic in
functionality.
browsing through various threads, i see that samba problems are quite common
with many versions of ubuntu.

bottom line...if samba doesn't work i can't use it.
there are many other people migrating from M$ that are going to be turned
off by this.
in my opinion it holds back the adoption rate for open-source alternatives.
