The bug you reference isn't FUD, it was a pretty serious bug that
hosed hardware.  That being said, the bug only affected e1000e cards,
and the bug was only in the 2.6.27-rc kernels.  If you run a
beta/release-candidate kernel as opposed to an official release, you
can expect bugs.  If you run a beta distro, you're likely to see rc
kernels, and thusly bugs.  If you something more stable, look for a
polished release.
