[olug] Eee netbooks

I've done 4 netbooks for friends. All of them came with Windows.

openSUSE on their wiki has instructions for booting to a thumb drive
and using that to install Linux. I took the easy route and booted to
an external DVD drive I had laying around.

I did a normal openSUSE install. There are repositories for special
Eee fan control apps and such, but I didn't bother with them.

The only issue I had was the Wifi kill switch. Once pressed, it killed
the wifi period. Moving the switch, rebooting, etc. wouldn't return
the wifi. I had to wipe the HDD and do a reinstall. I read about this
being a kernel bug that was supposedly fixed, but I haven't touched
the wifi switch since then.

I think the wifi kill switch is just a bad idea. If you're not plugged
into a power cable, then you're likely not plugged into an ethernet
cable either. These are called NETBOOKS, and have the primary purpose
of connecting to the internet. Killing internet connection to save
battery seems counter intuitive.

My wife purchased one for taking notes for class. She never uses it
now, and we've been talking about selling it. We just bought it 2-3
months ago for $300. Let me ask the wife, but we might sell it to you
if you want.

I already have openSUSE 11.2 installed.
