I'm up!  Thanks to Kevin and T.J for their pointers and thanks to Craig for 
his offer of help.   I'm currently configuring Kubuntu 9.10 and downloading 
updates.  After that, data migration, dual monitors, and folding at home.  Then 
the virtualizing begins!
