I do know there are buses you can grab right at 24th and Leavenworth.
That being said, it isn't a great neighborhood to live long-term. I'm
not horribly far from you myself (24th and Woolworth area), but those
two miles seem to make a world of difference. When I was in high
school, my parents kicked me out and I was on my own. I had an
apartment off of 24th and Leavenworth. Crime there is pretty high.
You can also try putting an ad on Craigslist to do random computer side-jobs.
We have three people in IT here at the Omaha World-Herald who put in
notice within the past week. In theory, we're going to be hiring
people to fill those positions. One was a Help Desk Supervisor, one
was a Systems Administrator II, and another a Systems Administrator I.
We should have another guy leaving soon, who just got a job offer from
somewhere else.
The World-Herald is hurting financially because the newspaper industry
is dying. I had two pay cuts this year. It isn't the best place to
work, but it sure beats being out of a job. You can email me your
resume off-list, and I can forward it to the IT manages here.
The two sys-admins who already left only did Windows work. The one I
expect to put in notice real soon does Windows and Linux
(RedHat/Ubuntu).
Off topic, but I tried Arch briefly and really dug it. However, I run
openSUSE most of the time.
