You laugh...  But the computer has crashed innumerable times with an 
overheating CPU until i finally thought to monitor 'Top'.  That's when I 
noticed the ridiculous CPU usage by Firefox.  : )

It hasn't crashed since I pared down the plug-ins to match another, stable, 
computer.

Thanks to Christopher for the heads-up.
