[olug] line in problems

I bought a head set with a mic and headphones.  The headphones work fine but
I can't seem to get the mic to work.  I tried just configureing what I could
with ubuntu's gui little sound preference application and couldn't get the
mic to work on it.  I've got the internal mic on this laptop (acer aspire
5536) too work I don't know what the issue is.  I don't know much about
kernel modules and subsystems but it would be nice too know more because I
always seem to get driver issues I can't troubleshoot on linux.  The only
thing I know how to do is use the online drivers application.  Help would be
appreciated.  If you RTFM me I guess I'll try to figure it out on my own.
