I've had similar good fortune with RAID 5, but as the drive size increases I see where this is much more likely to happen.

Curious that in 20 years as a professional sysadmin (sometimes managing
hundreds of TB under RAID 5 and replacing failed drives weekly), I've
never experienced reliability problems with RAID 5...
