[olug] Cost effective enterprise backup

Symantec Netbackup here v7.1.0.4 with Data Domain (VTL) but does support OST which we are hoping to migrate to. We also write to physical IBM series 3500 & 3310's. I have heard ugly stories about Avamar interface. Finding details requires alota clicks I guess? Heard good stuff about CommVault but haven't used it. You can do just about anything you want with Symantec Netbackup but I believe it's the most expensive but works with *ix and Windoze and all the major DB's. No VM plugin stuff cuz it changes to much so we push the backup across backup network. Would like to hear if those working with Avamar can validate if it requires a lot of drilling down to get details for job, policies etc. One of the things I specifically recall was that Avamar is okay for creating a backup policy but after that getting details is cumbersome.
Bad things I didn't like about Symantec is the NBU java console and NBU Windows console do not work the same, kinda hard to explain in email just know they are different. They require support logs for EVERY case we open and their FTP site is made by a 12yr old and it shows! Totally suks. Admin console can be Windoze 7/64 with 8G ram recommended or Linux, dunno if that's good or bad.
Good thing I like about NBU is that everything can be done via command line. Their first level support is okay but escalate for someone with in depth knowledge. Response time is very good but as much as we pay them (8 figures)... they should staff someone onsite. The app itself just works and is rock solid, reporting is basic so we went with Aptare that polls Netbackup for details. NBU on Linux runs very good and discovering devices works good once you know where to look, thru put on Linux is huge plus. Windows can't handle near as much load.

+1 CommVault
I have used CommVault in the past and was REALLY happy with it after going through 4 others. I would love to go back to CommVault if I can swing the cost. I also had a fantastic support structure through a VAR for CommVault that solved my issues most every time but we did reach out to CV for assistance a few items and they were very good too!
We use Yosemite where I am now...it is adequate, nothing special. It IS very inexpensive though.
