[olug] Slackware install hangs at "Welcome to Grub"

I've done some google searches, but none of the results give a
solution to my problem.

I'm trying to install Slackware to dual boot with Win 8.1 on my HP
Pavillion. I am using a 14.1 64-bit dvd. When I turn on legacy bios
settings, and reboot, I get to the "Welcome to Grub" screen and it
just sits there. The cursor is not blinking, nothing displays when I
try to type, and eventually any key press causes a system beep.

Disabling legacy support skips the DVD and boots straight to windows.
I also have tried the Slackware 13.37 release, and a Linux Voice dvd
with Mint, all of which boot directly to windows.

Does anyone know how to work around this, or have any other
suggestions on what to try?
