[olug] divert console errors to file?

I have a process that is mysteriously rebooting in the middle of the
night.  I think there are console messages appearing that are not being
sent to syslog.  I'd like to capture the console errors and put them into a
file or syslog.   I used to have a secret recipe to do this but I've lost
the knowledge.   Does anyone have that tidbit?
