I've installed Redhat's 6.9 or beta 7.0 and thought a few of you would be
interested in some of the more obvious changes I've noticed. It seems very
stable, which is expected since the only thing I've seen which could affect that
is the new XFree86 and I've the few flaws I've heard of in perl 5.6.
Bash 2.04 (was 1.14 in RH6.2)
XFree86 4.01 (was 3.3.6?)
perl 5.6 (was 5.005?)
iptables 1.1.1
kernel 2.2.16
it has sawfish now, but no enlightenment
All packages are as up to date as possible, but I didn't consider them big
changes (ex. apache 1.3.12 was 1.3.9)
Most people I talk to don't know about is Redhat's version policy. All distros
of a major version will be completely compatible (config files, libraries,
etc..). So, XFree86 wouldn't be released in a Redhat 6.x distro because it's
not compatible with the XFree86 that was shipped with 6.0. This has a lot of
advantages for everyone. The sad part is, it looks like we may not see the 2.4
kernel in version 7.x. But who knows since this is still beta?
