for secure file sharing there is only 1 three letter acronym: scp
If the file sharing is only for you or people with accounts on your system
then I would recommend scp over ftp. If you need a win client use pscp or
psftp. (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/) from the same
people that bring you putty.
If you want to give the world access I would take a look at proftpd. I
would stay away from wu-ftpd.
