if ide-scsi worked than it should now be device scd0.  I have ide-scsi compiled into my kernel and added this to my lilo config to get it to work.
append="hdd=ide-scsi"
Read the cd-r howto on linuxdoc.org as well.  it is very good.  Read the whole thing though.
