Your original e-mail showed up fine in Vi, but not in Mutt. It seems, initially, that some viewers munge the hex sequence '20 0a 0a' (space, LF, LF).
In Mutt, I didn't see a blank line between "...doesn't send them." and "There's a blank line above...", but I did every where else. The only thing I can see different between that line and the others that show correctly is the space before the two line feeds.
